The Pros and Cons of Mini-Split HVAC Systems

Mini-split HVAC systems are becoming more popular as people look for ways to stay comfortable while saving money at the same time. But as with just about any heating and cooling option, there are advantages and disadvantages. Here’s some information that will help make it easier for you to choose whether or not you want to have this type of system installed in your home.

Pros of Mini-Split HVAC Systems

One of the biggest advantages of mini-split HVAC systems is that they are very energy efficient. Many of them come with advanced compressors that either speed up or slow down depending on how much they’re needed. This saves a great deal of energy as opposed to a traditional HVAC system that turns completely on or off.It takes a lot of power to start an AC unit from a complete stop. These kinds of systems also require very little drilling to install, so they are less prone to air leaks. In addition, they are much quieter than their traditional counterparts.

Cons of Mini-Split HVAC Systems

The main downside to a mini-split system is the up-front cost, which can be quite high. In addition, these kinds of systems typically require more maintenance than traditional units. You have to make sure you wash the filter every month – if you have pets or you smoke, you might have to do it as often as every two weeks or possibly every week. It’s very important you do this, because if you allow too much debris to accumulate it can be very expensive to hire a professional to clean it. In addition, some people don’t like the fact that you’re fairly limited when it comes to the color of the unit – indoor units usually come in either white or beige. If you would like more information on mini-split HVAC systems, get in touch with the experts at Burnside Air Conditioning, Heating & Indoor Air Quality.
