Dont Be Fooled into Forgetting your HVAC!

niceweather

If you escape April Fool’s Day you may think you’re in the clear, but you’re wrong--the entire month of April can fool you into forgetting about your HVAC system. This month don’t be deceived--be vigilant and keep an eye out for HVAC issues that may affect your health and pocketbook.

Dangers of a Weakened HVAC System

allergiesMany people suffer from allergies, and if someone in your home suffers from asthma, lung issues, or a compromised immune system, having an HVAC system not operating at full capacity could be a dire situation.

Allergens like pollen, mold, and dust, if left to build-up and left untreated, could prove disastrous to elderly or young members of your household. Although asthma and allergies can usually be treated at home, should someone require emergency care, you know you have a huge problem on your hands.

Some people neglect to take proper care of their HVAC system by not cleaning it, by not changing the filters, and by unknowingly letting mold or bacteria breed inside their unit.

Prevent HVAC Neglect and Abuse

inspectionWhen was the last time your HVAC was looked at by a professional? Do you know how old your HVAC unit is?

Even if you think your HVAC is in top shape, appearances can be deceiving. Like any piece of equipment, they can only last so long, and they will have a long lifespan only if they are cared for properly.

Much like a person might live a short life if they never see a doctor, an HVAC unit can be worn out by neglect and abuse. An air conditioning unit will work about 10 to 20 years.

An HVAC unit should work from 15 to possibly 25 years, but that number will vary wildly based on if you have regular check-ups, change the filter, and don’t overuse or improperly use your unit. Your filter should be changed every 1 to 3 months, and the entire unit should be cleaned and inspected yearly.

Preferably, you should inspect your air conditioning in the spring before the hot summer months, and check your heating before the fall cooldown, especially since you’ll want to clear out all the dust that built up during the spring and summer.

Summer’s Coming!

servicesHere in McKinney, we’re part of the Sun Belt, so we can always rely on having a hot summer.

Although we’ve never broken our record temperature of 118 degrees (thankfully that hasn’t happened since 1936!), we still average 93 degrees Fahrenheit in July.

To be sure you’re ready for the summer heat, it’s best to get your HVAC unit checked to be sure it’s clean and working well, rather than risking the unit breaking on a sweltering summer day. Why risk a few hours of discomfort when you can spend your summer carefree?

Even though spring has us all feeling good and we’re excited for the summer, we still need to remember that indoor air quality can be 2 to 5 times more polluted inside than outside, according to the EPA.

If you’re suffering from respiratory issues or allergies, and if you suspect your air quality isn’t as good as it should be, give Burnside Air Conditioning, Heating & Indoor Air Quality a call today at (972) 562-7789 so that we can help make sure your health and summer fun will both be protected.
